Joyeaux New Years Eve

So first off I am sorry for the lack of posting lately, the holiday season has been busy but after new years things will wind down and I'll have plenty of fresh new beats ofr everyone.  Holidays are great, quality family time, great food, couple drinks, good laughs, I can't ask for much more.  But if I could ask for more it would be in the form of some new great tunes.

Here is something older I came across a months ago.  It's a real old set by Daft Punk before the masked days and before Youtube put a limit on the length a video could be.  A lot of classic Daft in this one, I am so excited for some new material from these guys, this will have to due for now.

Peeps, new years eve is coming, just a reminder dancing is mandatory.

Bouge.

Holiday Cheer

It's December 22nd and nearly every blog I've read this week has written about their favourite songs, albums, remixes for 2009. Reading and skimming through top ten's I find that people are very biased to what they currently like and forget about albums that were real popular 11 months ago. I also can't figure out where some of these writers come up with their reviews. In a top 10 is it ok to mention something released over a year ago but that took 8 months to catch on? Case and point is the Friendly Fires, I can't believe I can't find these guys on any top 10 lists this year, they absolutely killed it in Europe and the album is amazing with lots of pop rock dance energy from top to bottom. Their self titled album came out in the fall of 2008 but was re-released this year in 2009 and didn't catch on till this year so what gives? I've read some pretty ridiculously dull top 10 lists where their album fit the genre but was left out and replaced with some real lousy material.

So this has encouraged me to not try to create any formal top ten list and maybe just give a shout out and a thank those artists who have given my ears great listening pleasure this year. Maybe I'll also give a shout out to who I'm excited about for 2010.

2009 Props go out to Friendly Fires, this guy's album of the year in this bloggers opinion, if you haven't listened to it you really should.

Extended props to a French rock band called Phoenix. Only helping me prove my case that the best things are French.

Duck Sauce aka Armand Van Helden & A Trak, 2009 was huge for these two, so excited to see what they are going to do in 2010. Not sure it can get much better than what these two have collaborated on already though.

Calvin Harris, you are filthy. Thank you for your singles and remixes.

Fake Blood, our blood types are not compatible so please don't get sick and die because I won't be able to give you some of mine to save your life. Keep up the good work, I know a couple Canadians who can't stop saying MARS and think you are the best.

Looking forward to what Daft Punk & LCD Soundsystem are going to drop in 2010, could be huge or could be a bust. Hopefully JUSTICE has something cooking, France will need some strong representation in 2010 and I hope it doesn't come in the form of David Guetta featuring Akon.

You may have never of heard of Swick from Australia and Ou Es Le Swimming Pool from the UK, but these two are hopefully going to do something in 2010, they have sort of gone missing since they dropped huge bangers a couple months ago, must be working on something big.

Deadmau5, thank you for creating a hit song that can be mixed and mashed with just about anything called Ghosts & Stuff. I don't really care for your work otherwise, but others see some deliciousness in your work so I'll just go along with it.

Grum, Don Diablo, Bloody Beetroots, Crookers, Chewey Chocolate Cookies, Justice, Uffie, DJ Mehdi, Laidback Luke, Chromeo, Miike Snow, all artists from France and the others I'm forgetting to mention, thank you for your contribution of sound in 2009, best of luck in 2010.

I can't think of a tune to go with this list and didn't want to play favourites so I'll post some new tunes later.

I Say Bouge, You Say How Hard?

No worries, here comes the love.  So I've been working on a little holiday mix for my friends, most of the tunes are older remixes but hopefully they will be new to you.  I am still learning how to manipulate my VCI 100 Controller and haven't mastered any of the effects yet making smooth transitions pretty tough, I'm getting better at the beat mashing, hopefully you'll hear some improvements over my last mix.  Song selection for the moment is my specialty,  the rest will come with time and practice.  Hopefully my practice will start to include more than playing for my friends and family in my living room.

Uffie Banged It Of The Park

So I'm not sure if you've heard of Uffie before but if you haven't you should.  She is signed to Ed Banger Records (Justice's Label) and is having a great year.  Her next single in this blogger's opinion is the best track she has ever put out and it will be huuuuuuuuufffffffiiiieeeeee.  She put herself on the map with her "We Are Your Friends" feature on Justice's album and hasn't looked back ever since.  I came home from work expecting to find nothing new and exciting but am real pleasantly surprised with this banger.

When I say Dance you say how hard?

So I've decided to call my next mix "When I say Dance, you say how hard?"  I love the tittle, are you feeling it yet?  I really put it all out on the dance floor Friday night and I'm still hurting today, the G&T's (Gin & Tonic's for those who don't follow the lingo) kicked my ass.   Another weekend has gone by so quickly and it is my duty to drop a couple bangers for my friends to listen too.

I'm not the first to drop this on a blog nor the last, The Crookers killed it at I Love Techno 2009 and dropped a great track called "We Love Animals".  Soulwax and Mixhell also got in on this mix, the youtube video is pretty cool.

Crookers ft Soulwax & Mixhell - We Love Animals (Tons of Friends)

This next track is old news but I still love it and find pieces of it all over plenty of other mixes so it is post worthy this weekend.

Here is a rare remix of a real old dance track from Cassius that I hadn't heard in so long.  Pete Tong reminded me of its classic value the other night so I thought it was also worthy of a weekend post. Just in case you weren't aware Cassius is French.

Cassius - Sound Of Violence (7EVE Remix).mp3

Here is another great Hey Champ tune remixed by Only Children.   It didn't take long for me to listen to it 10-15 times after having it on repeat because of how awesome it was.  I'm pretty sure I'll be stuck on this one for a couple days.

Hey Champ - Cold+Dust+Girl+(Only+Children+Remix).mp3

That is all I have to report for now, real hard mix coming soon though.

The Smashing Who?

In no way does the following make anyone want to dance, but I feel as once a borderline Smashing Pumpkins stalker I owe them a little place in my blog.

So what on earth did Billy Corgan do that was so bad that lead him from being a rock legend to what he has become today?  I don't think any rock star has taken such a nose dive from what once was the lead guy in the best rock band in the world.  Musically the guy still has it, his guitar skills are some of the best in the world and with Jimmy on the drums no one can match them.  I saw them last year front row in Toronto and they were amazing, the live version of this song was outstanding.  A studio version just appeared this week and reminded me of the old days and my love for the Pumpkins.  Maybe if he just put the scary goth look away (that includes not wearing dresses/mumu's), and just tried to be a regular dude with a guitar, hoodie and a kick ass rock band.  The masses would come back and adore them again and they could kick off a rock and roll revolution that is really needed at the moment.  Paramore amongst other awful bands just aren't cutting it right now.  The pumpkins just need to get their shit in order, rejoin society, rock the fukk out and sold out arena shows will be on their doorstep.

For now I'll settle for the odd ballad I suppose.

How is Fire Friendly?

I've had a real busy week at work so I haven't had much time to listen to some fresh sounds, but I figured I should take a couple minutes before bed and look for the Friendly Fires remix I've been raving about all week and I found it!!!!!  I'm so stoked, I've been listening to the Annie Mac version on my iPhone at work and as lovely as Annie's voice is this is so much better.  I'm also real excited about incorporating this tune into some mixes this festive season.  Oh, I nearly forgot that I also found the Calvin Harris remix of Guetta's One Love.  David Guetta also gained some cred this week when I realized he was French and got nominated for some Grammy awards.  How do French DJ's get nominated for Grammy's?  That is breaking through some serious barriers, did Daft Punk ever get nominated?

19 Days Till Christmas

So here we are 19 days till Christmas, I haven't bought any presents yet and have no idea what to get anyone.  This situation will most likely not change till December 23rd.  I should probably spend a little less time listening to music on the internet and more time searching for some great gifts for my family and friends.  The good news is that with the time I've spent looking for new tracks, I have so many great songs to choose from to post today after a nice relaxing weekend.  I'm still searching for a couple tracks that Annie Mac unleashed on her BBC Radio 1 show.  First one is an older Friendly Fires track called On Board  recently remixed by Joakim.  This remix is huge, & delicious.  Best I can do is a youtube video for now.

I probably don't need to remind you that French people do it better, here is a Hey Champ remix of a Priors track called what you need.  Priors who are not a household name yet have a great sound.  Back in the day they were called Modjo and had an absolute monster hit called "lady" that was a club favorite at the start of the decade.  Here are both of the tracks, not much has changed, still have a great disco sound.

Priors 'What You Need (Hey Champ Remix)

Modjo - Lady (Hear Me Tonight)

David Guetta and Calvin Harris have been on fire in 2009.  I'm really not a big fan of David's work to be honest but I can respect it.  Calvin is just good sh*t, I didn't really get his "Ready for the Weekend" album at first until everyone else remixed it.  It's like he purposely left it raw for everyone else's creativity to finish off his masterpiece and he cashes in on the credit.  Here is Calvin remixing David Guetta's - One Love.  I was listening to this at my desk and started to look around for my glowsticks but couldn't find them.

Here are a couple more tracks for the road that are pretty good.

Sia - You've Changed

Working Together (Boys Noize Vocal Mix)

Dennis Ferrer 'Hey Hey' Remixes by Defected Records

Enjoy!

Truckers Delight

Here is a video forwarded by a good friend that is an instant classic.  The music is horrible, I really don't wish it upon anyone's ears but the video is pretty awesome.  I had to turn the music video volume down and turn up something better to tolerate watching the entire thing while enjoying it at the same time.  How come video games today don't have super bonus points?  I could really use super bonus points, I also like the 360's that the still image used to make while changing scenes in older video games, we need more of that in newer games.
