Best Video/Audio of what has to be the best new track to drop @ WMC2010
So first off, Yes I am alive and home from WMC 2010. I've had my phone off the last couple days, sicker than I've ever been I think, to the point that I can't pick my body up to drag it to work but alive. I was sick as a dog when I decided it would be a good idea to leave thinking that some nice weather would clear my sinuses and everything would get better but I am not a Doctor. A lot of lessons in traveling were learned this weekend,
First off make sure you book flights in advance and on the right day. Got to the airport on Friday afternoon with airline tickets for Sunday by accident. (my buddy Mike's attention to detail on this matter was lacking).
So after American Airlines basically told us to f off and that we were morons which is partially true we had to start looking for alternative methods of getting to Miami in a couple hours. After turning over nearly every rock trying to find flight to Miami or fort lauderdale
the best we could find was 2 one way tickets for 1200 and change really putting a dark cloud over this trip. That is until we found Nancy a AiR Transat Holidays rep who sells Sky Service flights happens to have a couple available seats (70 or so) on a 6pm flight. $197 taxes in per seat. Giddy up WMC was back on track.
So flight was leaving later so we ended up having to bail on the Friday night Ultra festival which wasn't the end of the world. I had bought a couple tickets for an Annie Mac after party @ the white room.
After spending a couple hours walking around Miami looking for the white room without a proper map we had arrived. The white room was in a real dirty/industrial part of town. Trying to find somewhere to hide our bags was proving to be more difficult than anticipated. Homeless people everywhere, but we eventually found some good bushes.
So all this effort, it's like 1130 and were finally in and were we ever in for a treat. Nearly everyone I've ever wanted to see play was on hand in a smaller 300-400 person venue. Got to meet Fake Blood, Annie Mac, Calvin Harris, A Trak, who I think was Armand Van Helden, Busy P, Dj Mehdi, Brodinski, Tiga and an Asian guy I'm pretty sure was Steve Aoki. He denied it but we both know it was really him. Mehdi, Brodinski and Busy P(head of Ed Banger) played an epic set with everyone else around them. They were all class acts, friendly. I was way to drunk to try to have a real conversation with anyone, I should probably apologize to Calvin Harris for sending my friend Mike over to ask about the encore / malfunctions in Toronto show last week. This seemed to put Calvin in a bad mood and his manager stepped in and was blaming the sound crew and Calvin looked annoyed.
The music that night was ridiculous, shit was outright off the hook. Around 5 am things started to wind down, I was as drunk as I get without puking and so exhausted. We hadn't really made any sleeping arrangements, I figured we could sleep on the beach but I had failed to realize that there wad no beach downtown and we were nowhere near south beach.
So we stumbled around the city and passed out in a leaf covered ditch or the side of the American Airlines Arena (home of the Miami Heat) with a massive flashing Dwayne Wade billboard in the background. I was passed out cold until 7 or so when I woke up freezing and shaking with some other homeless people starring at us. I woke up mike with my shaking so we decided to move to so warmer bushes in front of the stadium where we passed out for another hour or so.
I'm pretty sure that morning was a low point in my life, it could only get better once the sun came up.We walked around gorgeous Miami looking for a McdDonalds till a homeless guy named Al who is also supposedly a paralegal(they aren't kidding when they say that there is a serious economic downturn in the US) escorted us to MCDs for a dollar.
Breakfast was brutal and my stomach wanted nothing to do with it. From there the only thing that made any sense was to go to the beach and pass out. Two mega comfy lawn chairs and an umbrella was all I need to get a bit more sleep and a sunburn.
Around 3 we headed down yo the festival still in brutal shape from the previous nights activities. Now this was my first major dance music festival so I had No idea what to expect. Drugs were definitely in full effect, I've never been to a place with so many colourful characters in one place. We caught sets by diplo, a trak, boys noise & Erik Alkan, crookers, van burren, bloody beatroots and so many more.
My fav was probably A-trak who dropped some new DuckSauce. There was this Barbra Streisand track that will be ridiculously huge, so so Delicious.
I did come to the realization that massive hangovers with daytime music festivals don't go together. If I would have to do it again I would get a hotel room and just go to after parties skipping the daytime festival.
We eventually made our way back to the airport Saturday might, found some floor and passed out waiting for our 640 flight to NYC, then home. Fucking ridiculous weekend, tunes and pictures to follow one of these days after I get so more sleep and start to feel better.
Bouge.
