Barbra Streisand

Best Video/Audio of what has to be the best new track to drop @ WMC2010

So first off, Yes I am alive and home from WMC 2010.   I've had my phone off the last couple days, sicker than I've ever been I think, to the point that I can't pick my body up to drag it to work but alive.  I was sick as a dog when I decided it would be a good idea to leave thinking that some nice weather would clear my sinuses and everything would get better but I am not a Doctor. A lot of lessons in traveling were learned this weekend,

First off make sure you book flights in advance and on the right day. Got to the airport on Friday afternoon with airline tickets for Sunday by accident. (my buddy Mike's attention to detail on this matter was lacking).

So after American Airlines basically told us to f off and that we were morons which is partially true we had to start looking for alternative methods of getting to Miami in a couple hours.  After turning over nearly every rock trying to find flight to Miami or fort lauderdale
the best we could find was 2 one way tickets for 1200 and change really putting a dark cloud over this trip. That is until we found Nancy a AiR Transat Holidays rep who sells Sky Service flights happens to have a couple available seats (70 or so) on a 6pm flight.  $197 taxes in per seat. Giddy up WMC was back on track.

So flight was leaving later so we ended up having to bail on the Friday night Ultra festival which wasn't the end of the world. I had bought a couple tickets for an Annie Mac after party @ the white room.

After spending a couple hours walking around Miami looking for the white room without a proper map we had arrived.  The white room was in a real dirty/industrial part of town.  Trying to find somewhere to hide our bags was proving to be more difficult than anticipated. Homeless people everywhere, but we eventually found some good bushes.

So all this effort, it's like 1130 and were finally in and were we  ever in for a treat. Nearly everyone I've ever wanted to see play was on hand in a smaller 300-400 person venue.  Got to meet Fake Blood, Annie Mac, Calvin Harris, A Trak, who I think was Armand Van Helden, Busy P, Dj Mehdi, Brodinski, Tiga and an Asian guy I'm pretty sure was Steve Aoki. He denied it but we both know it was really him. Mehdi, Brodinski and Busy P(head of Ed Banger) played an epic set with everyone else around them. They were all class acts, friendly. I was way to drunk to try to have a real conversation with anyone, I should probably apologize to Calvin Harris for sending my friend Mike over to ask about the encore / malfunctions in Toronto show last week. This seemed to put Calvin in a bad mood and his manager stepped in and was blaming the sound crew and Calvin looked annoyed.

The music that night was ridiculous, shit was outright off the hook. Around 5 am things started to wind down, I was as drunk as I get without puking and so exhausted. We hadn't really made any sleeping arrangements, I figured we could sleep on the beach but I had failed  to realize that there wad no beach downtown and we were nowhere near south beach.

So we stumbled around the city and passed out in a leaf covered ditch or the side of the American Airlines Arena (home of the Miami Heat) with a massive flashing Dwayne Wade billboard in the background. I was passed out cold until 7 or so when I woke up freezing and shaking   with some other homeless people starring at us.  I woke up mike with my shaking so we decided to move to so warmer bushes in front of the stadium where we passed out for another hour or so.

I'm pretty sure that morning was a low point in my life, it could only get better once the sun came up.We walked around gorgeous Miami looking for a McdDonalds till a homeless guy named Al who is also supposedly a paralegal(they aren't kidding when they say that there is a serious economic downturn in the US) escorted us to MCDs for a dollar.

Breakfast was brutal and my stomach wanted nothing to do with it. From there the only thing that made any sense was to go to the beach and pass out. Two mega comfy lawn chairs and an umbrella was all I need to get a bit more sleep and a sunburn.

Around 3 we headed down yo the festival still in brutal shape from the previous nights activities. Now this was my first major dance music festival so I had No idea what to expect. Drugs were definitely in full effect, I've never been to a place with so many colourful characters in one place.  We caught sets by diplo, a trak, boys noise & Erik Alkan, crookers, van burren, bloody beatroots and so many more.

My fav was probably A-trak who dropped some new DuckSauce. There was this Barbra Streisand track that will be ridiculously huge, so so Delicious.

I did come to the realization that massive hangovers with daytime music festivals don't go together. If I would have to do it again I would get a hotel room and just go to after parties skipping the daytime festival.

We eventually made our way back to the airport Saturday might, found some floor and passed out waiting for our 640 flight to NYC, then home. Fucking ridiculous weekend, tunes and pictures to follow one of these days after I get so more sleep and start to feel better.

Bouge.

Operation Dance Dance Party Party In Miami is a go!

-2 One way tickets on Air Canada Toronto to Miami
-2 Tickets to Ultra Music Festival,
-2 Return tickets from Fort Lauderdale to Buffalo.
-No hotels, No Luggage, Very Little Money

Should make for a most excellent adventure to close out March 2010.

I was trying to come up with a tune to celebrate all this but I'll just have to come up with that when I get home because I need some rest before insanity.

Nearly Every great DJ on the planet is there right now, and it would be so much fun why did I not plan something earlier?

Boooooom: Recap of The Digital Future @ Sound Academy

So last night's show was pretty awesome @ Sound Academy in Toronto.  I would like to thank the wonderful people at Heineken for recognizing my VIP status early in the evening and promoting me to their VIP lounge.  Clearly they thought I was an asset to the lounge, some photographer even came up to me wanting a picture of me holding my Heineken.  Clearly the Heineken girls recognize important people. The couch @ the back with a clear view of the stage was the best seat in the house when I would get a little tired of dancing & mosh pits.
The music was pretty awesome, I discovered Nasty Nav who is way too good for an opening act, but played to an empty room with class.  Things started to heat up with Annie Mac, she has crazy eyes.  She dropped a couple bangers but was mostly just setting the stage for the headliners.

I'm surprised there wasn't more thought put into the way the stage was setup, technical difficulties were going off between nearly every dj switch, for such class acts someone could have put a little more effort into giving these guys a bit more table space and worked on the transitions.

Calvin Harris probably got the worst of the technical problems.  The man is freakishly tall and his had the biggest Macbook you can get that stands so tall on what looked like a boaster seat for a macbook.  (was most likely just an equipment carrying case)  He played the whole set without headphones and was dancing the hardest amongst all the DJ's.  For a while I thought he was just playing a pre recorded MP3 and just jumping around.  This suspicion was reinforced at the 60th minute of his set when he thought he was done after his last song played out, shut the lid of his Macbook to leave without realizing that Laidback Luke hadn't made it to the stage.  Once he quickly realized this he re-opened his Macbook that fell asleep waited for it to boot back up and played two of his latest singles.  I thought for a while that this was done on purpose, his sort of DJ way of doing an encore, but his twitter tweet this morning confirmed that it was total malfunction.  Either way the guy's set was off the hook, I love his work even if it was fake and he was pretending to be a DJ.

Laidback Luke opened with my favorite remix of his Gym Tonic.  That really just set the stage for a great 90 min set.  Much love goes out to him and his work, he has some great taste and some of the best remixes out there.  I didn't hear I'm in Amsterdam Bit*h which was slightly disappointing.  He may have played it while I waited in line to empty the Heineken tank.

My favorite DJ for the last 6 months or so Fake Blood delivered a solid performace.  The guy has to be exhausted, he has been playing nearly every night for the last two weeks, especially if he is playing at his usual 230am start time.  I was so tired @ this point, especially after spending 20-30 minutes in a mosh pit with my arms wailing around pretending to be 20 again.  I don't think he dropped Mars last night which was weird, at least not the entire track.  He probably has gotten sick of playing it, I can't imagine having to play the same songs over and over again night in night out.  He ended his set with a Boyz Noize Chilly Gonzalez Piano retake before dropping the dozen.  Fukking Insane.

The to close out the evening boy8bit put on a great show.  I was much too tired to really appreciate this, I think the crowd was also feeling it but stuck it out in anticipation for what this guy is going to drop.  Boy8Bit is really making a name for himself lately dropping massive singles, I look forward to seeing him again when it isn't passed my bedtime.

Sorry for my brutal pictures, best I could do with an iPhone on Heineken.  To make up for them here are two really fresh tracks.  One is from another pair of DJ's who've decided to work together under the name Carte Blanche.  Dj Mehdi and Riton are monsters in the Electro House community and this promises to be as good as Ducksauce.  I'm so excited to hear more, 4 tracks are supposedly recorded due out in May.
Next I've got one of a couple  new Boyz Noize & Erol Alkan tracks.  This sh*t is filthy, I love it.  All of these tracks won't be able to hide from my next Bouge mix.  If your a DJ your fans will think you have a clue if you play both of these.

Mars!!!!

So tonight is going to be the best party ever at Sound Academy in Toronto.  Fake Blood, Boy8Bit, Calvin Harris, Laidback Luke, Annie Mac, and so much more.  Such a great lineup for what should promise to be a great spring evening.

I've blogged about Fake Blood so much and never shut up about the guy, mostly because he brings it to the next level, everyone else is just trying to play catchup when it comes to electro.  I wasn't sure what song to post along with this so I'll just post two tracks that started it all for me.
ps. tickets still available if you happen to read this Saturday, if not Montreal next weekend but I'm not sure if tickets are still on sale or if it sold out.  This show should be worth the drive from anywhere on this continent.

This next track has nothing to do with tonight's show, such a great mash of two classic tracks.  LCD Soundsystem is working hard on a new album, so excited to see what comes out of all that.  For now this will have have to fill the void.

My First Mashy Mashup

Here is my first mashup, I've gotten some feedback and most people are saying that there is just too much ass & titties. I'm not sure how you can have too much of ass and titties, let alone two asses & four titties. I'm gonna go ahead and say that I think that there is just the right amount of ass & titties. Thanks for taking the time to listen, hopefully my next mash will have some noticeable improvements my my audiences listening pleasure.

Papa, ecoute la, J'ai besoin d'un peu de Bouge

So the weather inspired me to make a small Bouge mix today.  I really had to scrape the bottom of my download folder to make this work, but I think it came out okay.  A lot of what I've been listening too lately hasn't been electro enough for Bouge mix, maybe I'll switch it up and make a classic rock or hip hop mix one of these days.  For now typical Bouge will have to do, a newAfrojack's banger and and an Alex Metric remix were probably my two favorite tracks.

Whoa Whoa Whoa Attends.mp3

Did I also mention 4 sleeps till Fake Blood?  I included a new boy8bit track in my mix since he is also playing this weekend and I'm trying to get into it for the show, but something about tracks mixed with 8 bit amiga sound that doesn't really do it for me.  Anyways enough chatter, more noise.

Whoa Whoa Whoa Whoa, Attends (Hands up in stopping motion) Papa, Attends!

(picture to go along with tittle will be posted soon)

So I just got back from a week snowboarding Holiday up in Mont Tremblant (St Jovite) and haven't had a chance to post for a bit so I thought I would jump right in with some freshy fresh tracks to get the weekend started.

Lets start with something new from Ou Es Le Swimming Pool.  These new Knights is a pretty solid track, I look forward to hearing the rest of the album.  They've been working on a new album that is coming out this spring after having a huge hit last summer (Dance the way I feel).  The Van Helden remix of that track was sick, and never grows old with me.
Ou Est Le Swimming Pool - These New Knights (Disco of Doom Remix)

In memory of Mark Linkous of Sparklehorse here is a great track to was scheduled for release this spring.  It is a collaboration with Danger Mouse  called Little Girl.  Your Stereo will like you more if you play this.
Danger Mouse & Sparklehorse - Little Girl feat. Julian Casabla

My favorite electro track for this week is from Computer Club.  No one has ever invited me to join a computer club so I may just have to start my own.  My computer enjoyed playing this, you'll probably enjoy listening to it.
computer club Feat. frankmusik - losing streak
Alex Metric says this is a great track so it must be.  Riva Starr remix is nothing like the radio edit, I love both so you should too.

Mason ft DMC and Sam Sparro - Corrected - Riva Starr remix vocal by Mason

Breakbot is the talk of the town on the internets at the moment, 2010 is going to be his year.  He has a very unique style that I'm not sold on yet, but who am I to decide what is good or not.  Track is from Kavinsky a French House producer.  Yet another reminder that French people do it better.

Nightcall (Breakbot remix) by Kavinsky

Hope these help with your music fix this weekend.

Streetlab

Listening to this will lead to drinking and dancing, not particularly in that order.  This is probably my favorite Streetlab remix, they are a duo from New York that do remix a lot of great rock songs into electro tracks.

Hiyayaya

So I was listening to a great Keljet remix of an XX song and they are singing repeating Hieyaeya over and over again.  I have no idea what they are trying to tell me but it sounds pretty awesome.  I haven't really dug the XX very much up until now.  This remix is going to get a lot of play around here for a while, this much is for certain.
