I think I'm going to start a Fist Pump Award and give tracks a fist pump rating. This is probably a lamest idea I've ever come up with but let's be serious for a second. James Talk & Ridney just released a massive summer banger on beatport called forever. The digital millennium copyright act has been all over on removing posts with this track on it, hopefully mine lasts more than a couple days.
I still think that one of the best albums from the last twelve months was the Sub Focus release a couple months back that I blogged about. Rusko is one of the biggest names in dub step and is trying to bring dub step to the next level, I don't think you could do much more with this particular art form to get peoples attention. This Sub Focus remix is one of the sickest dub step tracks I've ever heard in a while, it takes 30 seconds or so to really get into it. Crank the volume and turn up the bass or your stereo won't forgive you. If you blow a speaker or two don't say I didn't warn you.
Rusko - Hold On (feat. Amber Coffman) (Sub Focus Remix)
In keeping with the disco theme I bring you one of the best disco house tracks out at the moment. I will probably make my next mix a disco house set, and maybe start to dabble with some of my own disco house production. I've been making some strides with Ableton Live, maybe I'll post something one of these days.
Are you having the case of the Muundays? I'm not as I worked all weekend and I'm off today. Dizzee Rascal is entering the Disco Rap market with Dirtee Disco which is scheduled for release May 24th. I really dig this track although it will probably grow old on me fairly quickly, I'm not the biggest Dizzee Rascal fan, but sometimes I need to just put my biased opinion away and just play the music.
Dizzee Rascal - Dirtee Disco BBC Radio 1 Rip
On a different note I've been really listening to a lot more music that is outside the box this week and discovered the Ghosts Of Venice. Dj's/Producers with a wicked blog I might add. They post more pictures than audio and a couple of the pics are instant classics. http://ghostsofvenice.tumblr.com/
So I'm pretty sure Abracadabra is the coolest name for a record label. Sadly these guys are called Abracada, name is still cool but not as cool as it could be. Lucky for them they have the music to back it up. The Krays ft. Ebony Bones - We're Ready When You Are (DJ Mehdi Remix) is my track of the day set for release on Abracadabra in May. The Krays are Yusek & Brodinski teaming up which seems to be the new big thing these days, great DJ's/Producers teaming up together with with a group name. Carte Blanch, Duck Sauce, and now The Krays amongst many others. I'm really digging the disco sound this week after a couple weeks of straight up house music.
On a totally different matter my favorite team right now has to be Club 75 (Busy P, Justice, Mehdi, Cassius + guests) all on one stage at the same times with all sorts of mixers and cdj's. The Cochella gig maybe didn't sound as good as it could have but they are just getting started.
On another note I think I have to stop posting links for the tracks as the DMCA keeps on getting on my case and removing some of my posts. It is kind of a jerk move on my part but they just sound so good and I feel I need to share them with everyone.
So Uffie just dropped a massive banger this month in Add SUV featuring Pharell but it didn't become epic till I just heard on Annie Mac's radio show the Armand Van Helden remix. Uffie is about to jump up to the next level with this, by far one of my favorite tracks of the year. I keep on saying this, but they just keep getting better and better. Here is the radio rip for your ears.
Uffie Ft Pharell - ADD SUV AVH Remix Radio One Rip
It is a well known fact that "Thunder" when being screamed in an Australian accent comes out sounding like "Thun-da". I'm not sure why I never posted this track a long time ago, probably because I have some sort of problem with The Crookers. I just can't get into most of their stuff with these couple tracks being the exception. I don't think you could do a better job of remixing ACDC's Thunder into a better dance remix than these guys. The other tracks is a song about Martian's. Martian's on paper are cool but if they came down to fukk our sh*t up we would probably not think of them as cute and cuddly like Marvin the Martian. Anyways, props to the Crookers on these couple tracks, and maybe one day I'll understand the attraction to the rest of their stuff.
So I'm real tired after a couple long days at work and some misfortune along the way. Some major douchebags stole my work ladder, some safety cones and the safety beacon of the roof of my work truck the other night. This made for a frustrating Tuesday morning totally ruining how good I should be feeling with this fine weather. I also just noticed that my Riva Starr Post came a day early, I thought it was supposed to automatically drop on Tuesday but clearly the internet made a mistake and posted his remixes a day early because they were so good. This overshadowed my awesome Monkey See Pascal Do mix, go listen to it or you will have bad karma.
I've got a couple days off before I work the weekend and I'm going to catch a Jays day game. I hope they don't totally suck today as they have been sucking over the last week. This could make for a real long season if they not. On the positive note they never lose when I attend so I predict victory.
This morning I've been into some older Mr Oizo, this guy is so much more than Flat Beat, it's maybe just taken me a bit longer to appreciate all his work than most electro enthusiasts. Here is an older short film he did to promote his Lambs Anger EP a couple years back.
Riva Starr has got to be the hottest (hot as in awesome and not really really good looking not that he isn't a decent looking guy) house music DJ/Producer on the planet at the moment. My first taste of Riva Starr was a song I blogged about a while back called "I Was Drunk", at the time it was an instant classic but not very dance floor friendly in my opinion. He recently jumped into the mainstream when he recently remixed Usher's new single which on paper sounds a totally lame track but in reality is a one of the best main stream top 40 remixes I've heard in a real long time. His LP "If Life Give You Lemons, Make Lemondande" is an instant house classic, along with dozens of other remixes he has put out over the last two years. He also appears to have one of the busiest tour schedules I've scene for a house Dj this summer, his passport better have a lot of empty pages for all those stamps. I may have to drive to Montreal to catch him at Piknic Electronik in early September, I know it's 5 months away but planning ahead is always advised otherwise you end up sleeping in a ditch nearly freezing to death.
Ladie & Gents, here is my latest mix for your listening pleasure. Two hours of great tunes, some that I've blogged about lately and many that I haven't. The first hour is some straight up delicious house music, great for your next party if you want to play something different that isn't top 40. I was going to stop the mix at 60 minutes but decided to dive into my electro mode for another 60 minutes. Hope you enjoy this as much as I enjoyed recording it this afternoon, one or two bad transitions due to some pure laziness but most of the mix is pretty tight.
If you don't like this track we can't be friends. It took me over three weeks to figure out what this track was since I heard it in Miami, sorry for another Miami reference I just can't help it. I don't know much about the Round Table Knights other than the fact that they have an awesome DJ name and produced my favorite track of 2010 so far. The video is also pretty dope, I'm think it's mostly video samples from the Magnum P.I series intro. Either way the track and video go together so well.
Teki Latex's Dinosaurs With Guns has been on my want list for quite some time now and is finally here. I spent about 30 minutes yesterday morning taking the Dinosaurs With Guns hook and mixing it into 10 or so other songs with great success. This hook is going to pop up all over the dance floors around the world over the next couple months, so very exciting for someone to finally recognize the dinosaurs and their ability to use guns. Excuse the picture, I know this particular Dinosaur doesn't have a gun on him, he didn't feel like packing on this day, and rather just eat people.
So O-God a DJ from the Major Razor crew (whoever they are) decided he couldn't wait for Ducksauce to drop the hit of the summer and did something rather dumb in this bloggers opinion. He went and recreated the track and it is spreading on the internet like wild fire this morning. Duck Sauce for those who don't know yet are by far my favorite DJ duo (A Trak + Armand VanHelden). They've been playing this track at shows but have kept it off the market for whatever reason, teasing fans to no ends. I'm not sure that it is very respectful thing to do, I can't imagine that Duck Sauce would approve of this, unless they have something to do with this release. Maybe they are having problems getting sample approvals or Barbra isn't cool with being the hook on this summers most popular dance hit. Hopefully they will release the real track this weekend to make this remix dwindle away. Either way you know your on top of your game when people reproduce your work and hit the ground running before you even release your original track.
I won't participate in the spreading of this remix but then again it is the closest we have to the real thing to get our fix so have a listen. I'm pretty sure this track might break HypeM.com records for most hearts in 3 days. It is climbing very very fast this morning.
Duck Sauce - Barbara Streisand (O-God Remix)
Here is a video of the sample that was used for the track.
The 2010 remixes of Fatboy Slim's weapon of choice track are pretty funkkkky. Remember the crazy video with Christopher Walken? They need to redo this music video with the remixes but instead of all the flying, try to get Chris to do some break dancing or maybe just a video of him eating all these bananas. None of these things are likely to happen but that doesn't change how awesome the new remixes are. Here is the radio edit for your listening pleasure. Vol+, Play, Bouge.
LCD Soundsystem leaked today on the internet, not sure if I really like it or not but we should all go buy it right away as it will probably grow on all of us and be amazing. Drunk girls grew on me and this Pow Pow track was awesome after the first listen. On a seperate note Unkle, Plan B & Crookers also leaked today, I'm ubber excited to listen to what Unkle cooked up.
As far as dance electro tracks go this song is nothing special in my mind, but the video is pretty stellar. I'm surprised that the producer wouldn't want to save it for a better track, unless the producer is the artist, in which I retract that statement entirely. I feel like I have no good new tunes to drop this week, maybe it's just the calm before the storm.
So since my hangover yesterday left me unable to do much of anything I've got to make up for the lack of post with two great posts today. In keeping with the Disco House theme, here is a killer new track from Voodoo Chilli which is really just Herve & friends. Herve is killing it right now in the Electro scene, this guy is about to drop a huge double album called "Ghetto Bass". Voodoo Chilli is his disco brand and puts out some outstanding tracks, "Love Song" is his latest masterpiece but "Check out the Groove" got a lot of play in 2009 and is also outstanding.
(Am I the only one who thinks this texting @ the bar/club has gotten out of hand?)
Kamei dropped his first EP Computer Malfunction on April 7th, 2010, he also happened to turn16 on this day. I've been following him on twitter in anticipation for this upcoming ep release and boy does he ever like to tweet. I'm pretty sure he spends day and night producing and listening to disco/house music when he isn't at school if he even attends. The EP is pretty impressive for a kid with a computer, I like the fact that he is sticking to his guns with his sound, I would imagine it isn't easy being 16 and trying to convince your friends that this type of music is better than Justin Bieber or Pitbull. You can download his entire EP for free off his myspace page as no label is taking this kid seriously yet or he is having difficulties getting ok's for his samples. Either way someone needs to figure a way for this kid to get paid.
Here was a track I heard I've waiting to get my hands on for a while and now that I have it, I'm not sure what to do with it. I can't tell if I'm going to get into this track at any point and play it non stop or if it will simply waste space on my hard drive. I'll let you decide for yourself and go back to listening to more Mr Flash for now.
Jot this date down or else miss the release of this summers biggest bomb. The Chemical Brothers. Dig it? This 12 minute track is ridiculous, very very spacey with so many different sounds. They might have to name a NASA space shuttle after this track, or play it during some televised launches for effect.
LCD Soundsystem's new album "This is happening" is going to drop later this month or early next month. Drunk Girls is the first single off of it and is quite good after hearing it a couple times. I'm a week or two late in posting this tune, I couldn't figure out if I liked it or not. I've starting to lose touch with rock & roll so maybe this album will dig me out of that funk and get me liking rock again. After listening to house & electro for the last couple months everything else seems so slow and hard to get into. I wonder if real live drunk girls were present or participated in the making of this song?
So I've recently discovered another dynamite producer Mr Flash from my motherland (Vive La France). He produces mostly hip hop and has some real funky beats. His new EP coming out April 26th is called Blood Sweat & Tears, and is getting some serious hype from some big artists like Mos Def. Mos Def used a Mr Flash beat for his last single. These are probably my two favorite Mr Flash tracks. Mr Flash is Dope, tell all your friends.
So here is a track from last summer that I think will probably get more attention this summer than it has in the past. I'm not into the whole track but I will be using the hook in future mixes for sure. Check it out, the hook is simple but outstanding. I like the Beatacue remix I found on soundcloud better I think.
So I'm going to make an effort to post a new track everyday for the month of April, were off to a good start so far I dropped all my fav's from the last couple weeks yesterday. Here is a guy I know very little about other than he is a Swede, looks like a tough guy and isn't related to Mats Sundin. I do know that Mehdi love's this one track, If you came here (Party). It took me forever to figure out what it was called and who made it. I thought the guy was saying educated bodies but clearly he isn't and I'm a fool. A Trak I'm pretty sure used the silvia remix in his Ultra set in Miami. Enjoy!
New Justice out TODAY!!!!!!!! (April Fools) So I've been discovering plenty of new tracks this week from all corners for the world, mostly the French corner as French producers do it better. Major obsession with ED Banger artists & friends this week. Here is a little mix I made after breakfast to start the day. It is very diverse, bit of everything and some new influences. I didn't want to include the last track because it really doesn't fit @ all but I did because I do what I want.
I've noticed a change in me this week, I've started really getting into Tribal House music. Tribal house is so fun to mix together and a lot easier to match beats than anything else. I love the French Fries, you can mix senta with so many tracks and make it sound good. If your concerned about becoming addicted to tribal house, do not listen to the following four tracks. (Links to track downloads removed as per requests) Hopefully leaving the player is still ok.
French Fries senta
Peters - Coleto del Cubano
Bart B more - Romane
La Tromba - Riva Starr Remix
Did you like it? I knew you would. Here are a couple massive and I do mean MASSIVE electro tracks for this summer, some of that real 4x4 shit. I'm pretty sure that these two were in every DJ's CD binder that were important enough to get them pre release.
Burns - Kiss N' Hold
This made its way onto the internet before it had a name, some people are calling it Gangsta for now. I've made the player a sweet neon pink because that is also Gangsta Cholo.
Swedish House Mafia - Gangsta
Here are just a couple other random tracks I really like right now, you better too or else. (I'll do nothing)
Oliver $ - I hope
Yusek Ft Chromeo - So Down
Here is my April wish list, things I really hope drop soon that I can listen too and play with and make my friends suffer and listen to them too. I already heard @WMC2010 but can't find anywhere and not set for release till later this month. I get this feeling April is going to rain Electro to set the stage for the summer.
Carte Blanche - Gare du Nord
Hey Today - Talk To Me
Mr Flash blood sweat tears ep
Ducksauce - Barbra Streisand (Obviously)
