Swivel Hips

So keeping in the French House theme from my last post, you may have listened to a couple massive bangers from Swivel Hips.  If you haven't yet do because you won't regret it.  I had never heard of these guys before last week, and boy have they left me wanting more.  I picked up mista chicago on beatport after listening to the Shorties EP.  I can't decided which Swivel Hips track I like the most because as far as French House goes they are all stellar.  I can't wait for these guys to come to Canada, I predict real big things for them in the second half of 2010. Here are a couple other tracks you can listen too, or catch a couple on my Maison Francaise mix.  If you likes, support these guys and buy a track or two on Itunes/Beatport.

La Maison Française

Take a second and ask yourself, what exactly is this picture of?  Yes obviously this is a house, but more importantly it is a French House.  Click the play button and listen to my French House mix I've recorded for you. I'm bringing you some of my favorite Maison Française from the last couple months mixed with some classics.  I've been playing a lot of this French House/Disco beat lately, it makes me bop my head uncontrollably.   For all the songs that aren't here I am sorry you are all very good but these are just better.

La Maison Française.mp3

Oh and this is actually my family house in the south of France, little village called Arguenos making this mix even more authentic.  It is probably one of my favorite places in the world to vacation, life just tastes better in the South of France.  Maison Isabee and mes amis Francais, I miss you and hope to come see you soon, no cashola at the moment to fly over.  Free place to stay for anyone who buys my airfare and wants to rent a car!!!

Enjoy the mix, tack listing in the comments.

Favela On Blast

Diplo has a documentary coming out on July 20'th about the underground sounds of Brazil, and its impact on life in the slums of Rio. It should be huge, and help expose a great sound to the rest of the world. Brazil has put out some of the greatest DJ's on the planet in its days (Oakenfold, Riviera, etc.) and is a culture where dance/electronic music is an everyday part of life. I wish Canadian's were the same, but unfortunately most of us are stuck line dancing or head banging to Nickelback. For those of you who don't know who Diplo is, he is kind of a big deal, check him out on the internets.

Sabotage

So, I told myself I would never post anymore Alex Metric remixes or tracks because every time I do I get a little memo from the DMCA reminding me of the bad things I am doing by redistributing music.  Since I've taken away the download links the DMCA hasn't sent me anymore nasty memo's so hopefully this won't get removed because it is a great remix.  Not that the original was bad or something, fukk it is probably one of the greatest Rock/Hip Hop tracks of the 90's.  This remix though gives it a 2010 Electro feel without ruining the original track.  I can already see myself trying to re edit it with my guitar hero guitar traktor mod, kind of wish I had the different parts to the track  because this could be a lot of fun.  For now this will have to do, and boy does it do.

"FLESH" Mr Flash Music video from Cédric BLAISBOIS on Vimeo.

This has been out for a week or two,at first I thought it was ok and just another video of girls making out.  Then o n the weekend I happened to watch it in the dark next to the campfire while drinking and it was a way cooler.  I'm not sure what made it cooler, most likely the drinking.  Mr Flash's EP was a bit of a letdown for me, especially with all the hype it was given.  Don't get me wrong it isn't bad, I was just expecting a lot more from it I suppose.  I'm pretty sure this is the only video of the Blood Sweat Tears EP so far.

For more tunes check out my Sangria Party Mix, you can never have too much Sangria or Bouge at a party.

Pour yourself a drink and have a listen to my Victoria Day Sangria Mix.  The Sangria Mix is a collection of my latest discoveries and some old gem's.   The highlights that stand out for me are the Cassius 99 remix or a Soulwax Radio Edit remix of Late of The Pier's - Best in Class.  I'll post the full track listing in the comments.

Arnold Classics

So I need to start out thanking my boys for a great weekend.  Friday night house party at la casa dromore, followed by a great bachelor party Saturday.  Many thanks to Heather @ The Brain for letting us take over your establishment, and all the fine ladies @ Hamilton Strip for their fine performances.  The Brain is a new Hamilton hot spot, make sure to check it out at some stage, if your looking for great music and specialty beers.  When I thought the weekend was almost over and nursing a ridiculous hangover I somehow found enough energy for Sangria in the Sun Sundays and some outdoor Bouge'n.  A couple mixes + pictures coming your way, shortly.

A couple big EP's officially came out today.  One of my favorite DJ's in 2010, Brodinki's released a real gem of today called Arnold Classic's.  A couple great Tony Senghore remixes on this one, but I like the original the most at this point.

Riva Starr officially released Splendido EP today, I blogged about it a couple weeks back before this great teaser video made its way to youtube.

Wow

For the last couple weeks ever since I heard Annie Mac say "Wow" in the middle of Armand's remix of ADD SUV I find myself saying "Oh Wow" uncontrollably.  Then I was quickly checking a couple blogs tonight after a very long yet satisfying day at the day job and found a new Siriusmo track called wow so I figured I should share it with all of you.  Siriusmo is having a great year so far, he caught my attention with his Breakbot - Baby I'm Yours remix and is now off to the races with his own productions.  Here is his latest track/video.

ps. I've got a half dozen killer tracks/remixes for a mini mix I'm gonna drop tommorow night after work for the long weekend, it is going to be siiiick.

Bouge In The Jungle

So yesterday I was out looking at the idea of possibly buying a pair of Pioneer MK3's but decided that it may be slightly out of my price range at the moment.  However I did discover a mega sale on the APC40 @ Long & Mcquade that I just couldn't pass up on.  I've been playing with Ableton Live for a bit and really wanted a proper midi controller to compliment my AxiomPro but didn't want to waste more than 300$.  I'll have to work a little overtime this weekend maybe to pay for this but it'll all be worth it. Akai put out a new cut down version of the APC40, ie the APC20 but it was nearly the same price as the sale on the 40 so I figured I couldn't go wrong.  Plus I am looking for something to compliment Traktor for better handling of effects and mixer functions for decks 3 + 4.  I'm going to spend some time making the perfect map for this controller, it is going to rock.  It may take me a long time but I'm convinced I can do something really cool with the LED's.  For most of you this is all garble, if that is the case scroll down and listen to some good tunes.

Remember Mac & Me?

Ghosts Of Venice 'I Learned From The Best' from Kill The Rhythm on Vimeo.

After a long weekend of work, I'm going to keep this post simple and post two great music videos. The first one is from one of my favorite french house producers Ghosts of Venice.   Right away it brought me back to a great childhood movie Mac & Me, I don't remember the dance scene at all so I might have to dig out the old vhs and watch it again.  The next video is going to make its way onto my next house mix, how can it not?  Best music video I've watched this year with maybe the exception to calypso ep.  I can't stop watching this. I'm excited to be off for the next couple days and spend the next two in the studio.  By studio I'm really spending the next two days in my living room, which now also resembles a studio at times.  Carte Blanche EP - Black Billionaires leaked two weeks early yesterday, I can see myself listening to this over and over for the next couple days. I'll probably end up buying a turntable to be able to listen to this vinyl at some stage soon.  Hope you all had a great weekend, if you havn't had a chance yet, listen to my latest mix on my previous blog post as it is more &more dope every time I listen to it.  Last couple tracks are some of my favorites right now, really solid remixes that you probably have never heard.

Are All Nerds As Good As You? Mix

The weekend is here folks so hopefully this will fill your requirements for some fresh new tunes for what should end up being a beautiful weekend.   This is a pretty solid mix of some of my favorite tracks from the last two weeks or so, I haven't finished my French House mix yet, so hopefully I get that done for next week as it going to be epic.  This is a solid hour of house & electro, many new recent and unreleased tracks.  I've learned that it is a lot easier to make solid transitions when you are picking from hundreds of songs than when you limit yourself to the same group and only have those to pick from.  I got a little frustrated near end trying to mix the last couple and the transitions didn't go so well but in time I will learn to use more effects and hopefully make better transitions.  Blame it on the  girls  & the noob remix of kiwi are probably my favorite tracks on this mix, you'll probably gree. Track listing will be in the comments.

Do you have the Stutterfunk?

Here is an EP I'll be sure to pick up, Stutterfunk is out on Itunes & Beatport now.   I first discovered Go Go Bizkitt when they cooked up a great remix for Breakbot's hit single Make You Mine and I always check back on soundcloud for any new Go Go Bizkit remixes.  You can check them out more of their work on Soundcloud or wait for my next mix which will feature Make you Mine remix to close out.

128 @ 320

I think I really want to make a shirt that says "128 @ 320", black with just simple white text.  Not a lot of people would get it but it would be pretty awesome shirt.  For those that don't know most house music is kicking it at about 127-128 bpm and if you've gone digital you don't want anything other than 320 kbps mp3's.  Here is a newer track that fits this description: Laidback Luke - Till Tonight (MSTRKRFT Remix).  I recently realized that when I was in Miami @ The White Room party I met some guy who looked like he knew everyone so he must have been important.  I introduced myself after a half dozen gin & tonics and was like "Hey man, I have no idea who you are but you look important!(making a total ass of myself but loving every minute of it)".  He responded "I'm Al, nice to meet you" and shook my hand.  Today I was on a blog and found a picture of Al, turns out he is 1/2 of MSTRKRFT, I'm such a Fukktard(Al is the guy in the back of the picture).  Anyways, here is a 128 @320 track for your listening pleasure.

This is louder than Bouge

Both of these guys have got to feel like they are on top of the world right now.  Afrojack is having a great year, really making a name for himself with his distinguished sound. Bangduck is a massive track, this will probably be just as big if not bigger because it is more radio friendly.  It doesn't hurt that he has teamed up with Guetta on this one either.  Guetta and I come from the same country so we both understand that French people just do it better, even better than Canadians.  I don't think I need to explain how big of a deal Guetta is to dance music.  Anyways, if you don't catch this track on my blog don't worry you'll probably here it about 20 000 times in the clubs over the summer.

Bare Back Jack

Sorry for missing a couple days of blog posts, I've been tired from working some overtime at the 9-5 and didn't feel inspired from any of my new material the last couple days.  I did however feel inspired on the weekend to go out and find a PS3 Guitar Hero guitar that I could then map to Traktor Scratch.  I originally went out wanting to find some used Technic 1200's but had to settle for a plastic guitar.   It is has worked out pretty awesome though, I can now dj from my couch with a wireless guitar.  I'm not quite comfortable with it yet, but have it mapping/setting upto 5 queue points for each deck, sync button, the slide bar is the volume fader and the ability to scroll songs and assign them to decks.  Really it is just a fancy remote control for traktor.  I don't even own a PS3 or enjoy playing guitar hero, that is what makes this awesome for me.  I can't wait for a friend to be over and be like let's play guitar hero, and I'll be like lets not and mix tracks.

Moving on, here is a more recent discovery I've made.  Keeping it Frech House/Disco styles  Bobby Analog just dropped his Bare Back Jack EP, I'm excited to pick this up just for the tittle.  I've heard a bit of his older work and a teaser from the new EP and this EP has all the right elements for awesomeness.

PS. Here is a little playoff math I've done.  Habs attendance capacity 21 273.  Regular Season Hockey ticket price: $57.  6 Home games without concession sales or tv deals pay out $7, 275, 366.  Maybe stretching series out 7 games isn't so bad.

I posted this song a couple weeks back but it was just a BBC Radio Mix with Annie Mac chitter chatting in the back ground.   OH WOW!!! This is my banger for the weekend, this track is worthy of two posts. and will probably find its way onto a mix I make at some stage.  Enjoy!

Gare Du Nord

I'm so excited about this release, probably the most excited I've been about a release in a very very long time.  My buddy Martin got me into Mehdi a coupe years ago, and I've really come to appreciate his work.  I'm convinced that Carte Blanche is going to be mutha fukking huuuuuuuuge, they are touring America this summer and playing in Toronto on June 26th I believe @ The Sound Academy, if you're around check them out you won't regret it because Mehdi & Riton are going to kill it.  I wonder if they fight over whose name goes first on articles Mehdi or Riton.  They are both world class DJ's/Producers hmmmmm.  Is one more important than the other?  On a different note if you are in the Montreal area Busy P is playings @ Club Soda this weekend, you should probably check that out.  I'm not sure how that guy juggles his travel schedule, LA for an Etnies Party today, Fabric in London on Friday and Montreal on Saturday.  Crazy.

Anyways check out Gare Du Nord, and a little something special after for your listening pleasure.

Congratulations + Banger Post

I would like to congratulate my Brother and Sister in law for calling me today to give me the news that  she is preggers and that I'm going to be an uncle, how crazy is that!!!!!!  I'm really looking forward to my 1/4 French 1/4 American 1/4 Canadian 1/4 Asian nephew/niece who will most likely be born in the UK.  I am also secretly hoping they stay in London long enough for the kid to develop a solid British accent.  Congratulations Sebastien & Connie, we are all so very excited for you.

Now for what we are all here for, this track may or may not be a summer club anthem but it will most definitely get a lot of play and attention in the following weeks.  Last summer I tried to convince my friends that Lys Feat Mooli - San Francisco Rain  was going to be a massive club banger because Pete Tong was backing it along with the fact that it was an outstanding track.  It got a lot of play for a couple weeks and died as fast as it rose very rarely to be heard again.  When I heard this track on Dancing Astronaut right away I thought of San Francisco Rain for some reason.  Either way have a listen and make your own conclusions, as to how good it is and if you will find yourself dancing in space.

Mr Blink - Gecko

So here I go again, starting to build up my top 15 Electro/House tracks for my next mix. I may switch it up this week and drop a French House/Disco mix this weekend, this track won't make the cut.  I've been working on it for a while, it's going to be Dancetastic.  So on to the news of the day,  Calvin Harris started his own label Fly Eye Records and the first artist Signed Mr Blink.  For those of you who don't know who Calvin Harris is, he is a freakishly tall guy good looking guy(according to my girlfriend who refers to him as her other love) with great taste in Dance Music.  Monsieur Blink's first EP Gecko dropped this week, there is very little information about Mr Blink out there, that is easy to find as I am very tired tonight and don't have more energy than to google his name really. I Can't even find a real picture of him, what if he is really a she?  I doubt this will be a monster hit, but it could grow on me and make me want to move my legs a bit. Mr Blink has some serious talent backing him with Calvin as the boss and a Burns remix on his first EP, talk about out a great start to your career as a producer.  Grab the EP on Itunes or Beatport if you likes.

I've decided that I'm ready to take my skills to the streets, and have enough confidence that I won't make a fool of myself in front of a live dance floor.  I've started to try to find a DJ home and have yet to be successful, if any of you have any hook-ups or know of anyone who is looking for a House/Electro DJ in the greater GTA/Hamilton/Guelph/Kitchener area feel free to hype me.  Track listing will be in the comment section &icture is courtesy of BusyP's Blog @ blog.coolcats.fr

Splendido Splendido

This track gets two fist pumps as a weekend banger.   This isn't the complete version yet, just something I got off Soundcloud that hasn't been released yet and sounds like a real promising house track.  On a different note I was out last night and made a couple observations:

1. Most Top 40 DJ's look miserable, I was out @ Rokbar and these guys were playing some fist pumping top 40 with some questionable bad transitions.  They looked like they were having the worst time ever, you could tell they just wanted to play something different but have been sucked into playing popular radio tracks.

2. I love going out and hearing new tunes or remixes of existing songs I hadn't heard before.  Paying a cover to hear what plays on the radio or television isn't satisfying when you can get into a bunch of places with no cover and listen to some great DJ's who play new or their own material.

3. It is May 1st so you know what that means.
