Higher Place

Sorry for  going poof for a couple days.  Friday night, Van and I DJ'd an epic Stag & Doe/Halloween Party.  Alain & Jackie, if you happen to read this thank you for letting us drop the beats for the peeps, we had a blast.   I'm normally against the whole tradition but if done right it can kick some serious ass.  This was such a great party, I'm already looking forward to next Halloween.  Spent the next couple days working/recovering and am finally feeling like myself this this evening.

So I'm a little behind in my e-mail, but will post ample tunes tomorrow while I enjoy my last day off before heading off to France next weekend..  Keiths & Supabeatz are dropping the Higer Beats EP via Southern Fried Records.  They've got a great sound, this should be a solid release.

If you look up cool in the dictionary you will probably find a picture of these two guys.  They are really making a name for themselves in 2010.  The latest masterpiece comes in the form of a remix from Canblaster called Clockworks.  Not out yet but you can get a preview of it on their Halloween mix they are putting out.

Swing Time

Here is a little nouveau swing for you this fine Thursday morning.   Go ahead, ask a co-worker to swing with you a little.  They will appreciate your honesty and enthusiasm for this track.

Welcome To The Red Room Honey

Wow.  Dennis Ferrer is back and this time it's with a monster.  Hey Hey Hey has to be one of the best house tracks in early 2010 and he is closing out the year with a bang.  This took me a couple listens to really get into but I'm officially hooked.  The vocals are super duper cool.  Couple days till Halloween goes off, what are you dressing as?

Remember Calypso? Of course you do, but just in case you haven't heard of this it's kind of a big deal.  The original is outright epic and will forever hold a spot in my playlist.  Made to play added this to their soundcloud page so clearly its worthy of a share with my friends.

Rent Is Too Damn High

Do I really need to say more than this?  Picture basically sums it up in 5 words.  I am going to submit my mix as the official soundtrack for  the Rent Is Too Damn High political party.  I doubt that they will want to be affiliated with me as my rent is very reasonable.

Flux Pavillion - Haunt You

Why is this song so good?  My boy Van can take the credit for this one, he played it last night and I was left feeling jealous because I didn't get to it first.  On a totally different note,  if you have never heard of scrap house, you should get on it as it is an amazing story.  I watched this national geographic episode the other day about it, such a cool concept.   What I don't understand is why they only left it up for five days?  Tragedy.

Nursed my hangover this morning with a delicious breakfast full of laughs and awkward moments.  Another beautiful day today, 81 degrees Fahrenheit inside my friends living room, partially cloudy outside.  Here is a little something to start the day, I'll be back later today with something a little heavier to start the parteeeee.

Magna Carta

Magna Carta was one hell of a treaty don't you think? Today is the one year anniversary of my blog, fukk does time ever go fast.  I started the blog to push myself to listen to different genres of music and  expand my horizons.   Over the course of a year, my musical intrests have really changed.   My likes and dislikes are totally different from a year ago today.  The roots are still there, but I've gone way off the grid, into a world of endless beats and rhythm.  I was going to compile a best of the last year for this post but came to the realization that best of's are lame. I want to thank all of you who've come to visit the blog, and next please time bring your friends.  One day short of a year I surpassed 100 000 hits!  If someone asked me a year ago if I would run a blog with 100 000 hits in its first year I would have told them they are crazy.  Technically it is probably a bit more since I only started keeping track in late July, but I've set a goal of 500 000 for next year.

So trying to keep things fresh here is something I stumbled across by accident today.  This is the chillest 13 minutes of music I've listened to all week.  I was free styling all the way home with the first couple minutes reminding me of my hip hop days.

Freddie Joachim by swinging swe

This next track is probably the coolest thing I've heard this week, it is going to definitely kick it in my next "Big Room" electro mix I've been putting together. The original is pretty f'n good but this Digital Lab Remix is insane in 320 turned up super loud.

Cool Shoes

For the last five days all I have been thinking about is finding some bigger chuuuuunes.  Let me explain myself, or at least explain my version of bigger.  On Saturday I got the chance to catch Calvin Harris and Steve Aoki and the only word to describe the show is "Massive!".   I never expected Calvin to blow the roof off with huuuge electro bangers the way he did.  His transitions were pretty flawless and the music selection consisted of crazy beats that were way beyond my scope right now.  I've been working on building my massive heavy hitters  in my music collection in case I ever need to blow the roof off myself.  So far so good, here is one of five monsters I will share with you over the next week or two.

Chocolate Puma - Tonco Tone

I don't know about Mexico, but House music in Canadian Bar's isn't easy to come by. Everyone here rather go to sports bars. I'm not sure why in this coffee culture age, the house music, chilly, lounge vibe isn't more popular. Licensed Coffee bars with house/tech/minimal sound. We need more of these.

Great Vinyl Haul of 2010

I was walking home / wandering around Toronto in the wee hours of the morning after the Guvernment show last night and found a crate of vinyl's just lying there on the sidewalk.  There were some real keepers in there but the crate was way too heavy to take so I had to leave many of them behind.  I still probably made out with a hundred or so.  The covers are exquisite so for the next couple weeks I'm going to take pictures of the great vinyl haul of 2010 and share them with you.  One man's garbage is another man's treasure.

If you don't like this MIA remix we can't be friends.  Let's be serious, we were probably never going to be friends even though it would be pretty cool if we were.  Krusha's latest remix is another work of art, I hope all of you out there are taking notice.  Mad Descent is showing him some love, you should to.
MIA - The Message (KRUSHA Remix) by krusha

I'm enjoying a nice day off from work, maybe a trip into the city (Toronto) later today followed by a couple drinks and trying my best to stay out of trouble.  I probably won't try very hard and trouble will find me.  I've been wanting to put another mix together  for a week or so now, so I sat down this morning with a coffee and a pair of broken headphones that don't fit right and put a little mix together for my enjoyment.  I feel it worthy enough of some webspace, so I've upload it to SoundCloud for you.  Have a listen, enjoy yourself. Maybe leave work early today, or give a stranger a high five. Track listing in in the info section on SoundCloud

Elephanze Ce Danze

I'm spending a couple days taking care of my mom after work and decided it was time to update the digital picture frame.  I ran out of classic family photos, politicians, friends to add so I decided to toss in all my favorite producers and dj's.  I'm hoping that she becomes as fascinated with house music as I am.

On a more musical note here is another big tech track to follow up yesterdays post.  My friend Stephanie just sent this over and it has some crazy hard drums and is blog post worhty.
