Barbie Weed

I would normally wait a couple hours before posting something else since I just posted the two bears 10 minutes ago, but I came across this new Club Cheval track remix by SPOX that is out today on Top Billin another rad label.  This is kind of kick ass.  Note to self, purchase and save on desktop so that I know exactly where to find it over the next couple days to listen to repeatedly.  For those of you who  don't know what Club Cheval is, it's a couple French and Brits teaming up to create havoc on dance  floors.  Canblaster, Panterosa66, Sam Tiba & Myd who all individually kick ass and together make some serious beats like this:

The Bears Are Back In Town

The 2 Bears!!!! Curious Nature Remixes EP is out.  I'm going to have to add The 2 Bears to my list of live acts I really wanna check out in 2011.  They are way more on the chill side of things, but have a very groovy sound that is perfect for any lounge/house set.   On a different note the weatherman called to tell me the snow is coming.  The goal will be to have a small igloo techno party this year.  I feel like some good bass in an igloo would be awesome.  We would include a dj booth, and some room for a couple people to dance and fist pump, and maybe a bar again.  You can check out pictures from last years Igloo here.  It melted way to quickly last year after all the work that went in.  Updates will follow.

It began in.....

Good Morning World,

The first track is some new Jaclin' House to help you get the fuck up.  Perfect for a Sunday morning really.  The other two tracks are sort of a part b to a post I started yesterday I suppose.  I liked Afrikadelle so much that went on to listening to the rest of It Began In Africa Vol 1 & 2 and was really feeling it and still am this morning.  I don't often promote compilations but these but these two are both really solid. \

On a more selfish note can I get a little facebook love?  LateNites contest I'm entered in closing tonight and I have a very sad number of votes.  Partially because I don't have 2000 Facebook friends and have been out of University for nearly 10 yeas making it real hard to compete.  Most of my friends support things like cute baby pictures, so here is a shout out to all of you who follow the blog regularly to please help a brother out and vote for me :)

To Listen to my mix it is up in the top right hand corner of the page, first in the SoundCloud list.
Step 2. Like LateNites page
Step 3.  Scroll all the way down to where it says #2 Calou - Bart B More Opening set.  Like That.

You can unlike the group if you wish after, it doesn't void the vote.   Top 5 go on to the next round at midnight tonight and I find myself in 6th.  Please help a brother out.

Lazy Saturday trying to figure out how to root a Samsung Galazy Vibrant on a Mac and listening to good tunes.  The good tunes part was easy, but this galaxy bs is driving me up the walls.  The Julio Bashmore is outstanding.  I hope she makes her way down to Miami.  The Andhim track was a last minute find and definitely had a little bit of that je ne sais quoi.  Loving it either way.  Saturday, giv'r.

Nutritious

If you haven't heard of Nutritious before you should get on it.  I had a chance to listen to a couple of his house sets on SoundCloud and was left super impressed.  They are on the chiller side of things, real easy listening leaving the listener wanting more.  My favorite mixes are always the ones I dissect trying to recreate the play list, dying to figure out a couple tracks I've never heard before.  If I love a track that I've never heard, you get triple word score type points as far as your mix is concerned. There were plenty of those, now that the weekend has arrive I have some time to dissect.  Hope you are all pumped for the weekend.  If you are in Miami for WMC  I wouldn't miss this.

Jeudi, yes Thursday in French

Do adult size big wheels exist?  If they did, they would have probably replaced bicycles.  On a more serious note this French Fries edit/mash/whatever you wanna call it is pretty outstanding.  Plus it was a free download on SoundCloud so that made it that much better.  You have a nice day? I hope you did, but if not there is always tomorrow.   I stumbled across this Nouveau Yorican remix of Hot As Hell, it really made the track that much better.  By that much, I mean a whole lot of much.

Tony Montana

I do really love this Tony Montana pic, nothing like a little color to spice things up. Kaiserdisco 'sI "n No One's Shadow" (Remixes) EP is out on beatport now, this is probably my pic of the day. I posted the Sebastien Leger track last week which is pretty filthy track. Little less filthy but still really cool is this Bart Skils Remix below.  I am a little late on XXXY's Ordinary Things but I had to post it as it is probably my favorite of the bunch.  The last drop on a pretty sick progressive track "Things Undone" is pretty f'n sweet.  And to complete my picks of the day another version of Sing Sing Sing.  I probably like it better than the DCUP one from last year.  Both are pretty awesome and never hurt to have kicking around for a rainy day.

Haven't heard my latest mix yet?

I'm trying to win a contest to win an opening set for Bart B More.  Falling a little behind, could use my friends help on this one.  Vote here: http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/LateNites-Productions/119115251492359  You have to like late nights first, then like/vote for #2, only if you dig it of course.  There are a couple other pretty sweet mixes on there, check it out.

Bonjour, ca va?  I had crazy dreams about fruit last night, but this picture does not describe anything that happened in them.  Four more for the collection, from all different walks of life.  The Lazy Rich remix isn't out yet, super duper cool Fatboy remix though.  I'm glad I kept Aniki on my radar, his work is always solid.  I know Mos Def doesn't ever fit in but for those of you who know me, you know where my true roots lie.  Talib has a new album too that comes out any day now I think, gonna have to pick that up. DDJ-S1

I don't often talk about dj hardware/software so lets look into the near future.  I would love to get my hands on one of these and make the switch from Traktor to Itch.   Models will be available for both platforms though.  This looks so slick and the price tag Pioneer is putting on it is reasonable.  I've read 1200-1600 depending on the source.  This is definitely going to be a real popular product this spring, if you are in the market for a new controller  just wait a little longer.

I had a chance to catch the Round Table Knights last night.  Those guys are all class, put on a great show, tossing in some 90's edits I've never heard before and would trade my first born for.  Little disappointed in the crowd turn out, way less people than I thought would be there to catch the best thing to come out of Switzerland since Lindt & Sprüngli Chocolates.

Let's start Saturday off with a classic.  Everyone has probably heard this at some stage in their lives but no one ever knows what it is so I thought I would shed light on the matter.

Soho - Hot Music

Something new from Keith that came out on the 17th. You will like this or we can't be friends.

Keith - Get Up Ouch (Preview) by Keith

I only listened to the following track based on the album artwork at first.  Real solid deep progressive track.  One of those that you aren't sure where to place it in you music library.

Hot Chick On An Elephant

The other day I was thinking to myself "I wonder what a hot chick smoking on a happy elephant would look like?"  Then today I stumble across this.  Three unreleased gems, all previews or radio rips unfortunately but that's the way the cookie crumbles.  All three tracks are very different.  The NT89 & Camel - Flush is got this sweet groove to it.  I think I've seen a video of Congorock playing this at EDC at some stage, the bird/whistle sounds familiar.  Time To Change Part 2 is massive release from Highbloo out at the end of the month I believe.  The Chilly remix is just cute and cuddly kind of sound, you need that once in a while, it's good for karma.

Ou Es Loup Garou?

Recorded a little mix this afternoon for a http://www.latenites.ca/ contest to open for Bart B More @ Tabu in Guelph later next month.  Pre requisite was to record a 30 minute set as if you were opening for Bart B More.  I feel like I've put together a solid mix with great assortment or tracks perfect for an opening set.  I stayed away from big bangers, and included mostly chilled out beats that would make heads bop while the room fills and people get their drink on. I'll post the contest link once it's up.
Below I've included a couple tracks I haven't blogged about yet that made the mix.  The Boy8Bit Tropical Heat dub from Roy Apron is oh so very very hot.  Tropical hot even, I suspect this will get a lot of spins during Ultra week in the smaller minimal/house parties.  I really liked this B side to Deep Space Orchestra's latest EP.  They are definitely all over my radar now.

Is it weird I've never been into clothing labels but I love music labels.  Riva Starr's Snatch has put out some stellar EP's in 2010 and is of to the races in 2011 with this Phil d'Bit and Sebastiano collaberation.  Try pronouncing this word "Housetralopitecus".  Is this a new type of dancing dinosaur? Say What?

I want to start this week with a couple strong tracks and a bit of local news.  First off, if you are in the greater Toronto area next Saturday, a show you don't want to miss is the Round Table Knights at The Social on Queen St.  I read 10$ @ door but you may want to double check and bring lots of money but it is going to be an extra late night, 4am rule in effect.  For you producers out there, check out the beatportal remix contest for their Say What.  I suspect this will be one of the more popular remix contests in 2011.

These other three tracks I discovered on SoundCloud were my favorite from a very long list of uploads & emails over the last couple days.  Midnight Munchies keeps on putting out some great EP's, Sebastien Leger does what he does and Annie Mac's picks of the week never disappoint.  Hope you all had a great weekend!

Off The Grid

For those of you who follow my blog fairly regularly, sorry if I've been off the grid for the last little bit.  I've been pretty busy with work, and went riding for a couple days to get away form it all.m  Friend of mine took this picture on the last run on Sunday before we packed it in, we had a pretty chilling weekend.  Riding was a little tricky as I broke my ride hellsyeah contraband bindings on the first day and had to improvise with them.  They weren't even that old, just got them last season so it was a bit of a bummer.  Had an 8 hour drive home so I had a chance to listen to a couple new things and this new  30 Minutes of Swick Volume II was probably my favourite.  His first 30 mins of Swick mix was an instant classic for me, this one is just as good if not better.  The transitions are really good for a mini mix with such a great variety of tracks.  It could just be that we both have really good taste in music and that I really like the tracks he is playing.  Either way 5 stars and two thumbs from this reviewer.

Classical Dubstep

I like a little dubstep in my classical once in a while.  I wonder if this will ever sneak its way into a classical Sunday afternoon show on the CBC? Great free download from Retrotation available here.  If I were asked to summarize the biggest change in popular music for 2010, I would say the growth of all things dubstep/grime slightly outweighs the influx of disco house.  I'm really curious to see how this will evolve in the followings  years.

As for some totally different news a friend was nice enough to point out that WMC and Ultra have been separated into two different weeks this year.  I was also looking for a reputable site with other event listings, if any of you have anything better than this feel free to drop me a line with the details.  http://ultraweek.blogspot.com/p/thursday-march-24th.html

For some weird reason I've been feeling like it is Monday today.  This feeling can only lead to good things because it will feel like the weekend will come one day earlier.  Actually two days, this time because  "my crew" and I are going up to Tremblant riding for four days on Thursday night.  Really looking forward to it, but more importantly I need to load my phone with some fresh sound to ride with.  Not a huge fan of the radio edit but this EP has some pretty sweet remixes, I think the Prok & Fitch is my favorite.

Count Jackula

I am really loving this Count Jackula - Club Medits EP this morning, especially his  Slowburner (Heminway's Afterburne rermix).  Here's a little information I got off the Counts label DiscoTexas SoundCloud page.

Count Jackula is a mysterious character and only shapes into human form when he has a nice edit to share with the world. “Club Medits EP” is the first of a series of releases he’s been working on since 1431. With the help of an old map, Photonz and Golden Bug hunted down the stems of “Africa” and delivered two distinctive remixes taking the track into uncharted territories. Some folks have been raving about Count Jackula’s tracks:

"Premature Jackulation." - Edit Murphy
"
"Best stuff I've heard in a long time" - Edits Piaff
"There's so much energy!!!" - Thomas Editson
"100% rock-out material" - Edit Van Halen

Yo, what up peeps?  I hope you are having a nice day, I can tell you deserve it.  On a musical note I  will start with a 2011 prediction.   Everything Teki Latex works on and supports in 2011 will turn to gold. The Sound Pellegrino label had an amazing year from an outsiders view in 2010 and 2011 should be nothing short of epic for these guys. This Funkin' Matt track that Teki is featured on came out a little less than a month ago is pertty awesome.  Yes, pertty is a word I've made up to sound like pretty but pretty in a filthy nasty dance floor kind of way.  Those dance floors where you can feel sweat dripping down from the ceilings, you know the ones.  Have a pertty day.

I'm finally recovering from this years new years eve party two days later.  It has been a rather lengthy recovery but not as bad as my buddy's.   He got smashed in the face with my cowbell at 3am by an angry 18 year old who didn't appreciate the sweet sound of our cowbell.  Kids these days are out of control, no respect at all.  The little ginger piece of sh*t is lucky that a couple of us have enough common sense to not senselessly beat kids up in the street because he was way outnumbered and a couple of my friends were about to reconfigure his facial features.   He fukking broke my cowbell,  it was sweet while it lasted.  Here are a couple tracks that have been on my play list for a while to kick off 2011.  Cheers!
