My latest mix for the end of April 2011 recorded in the studio studio. This is a lot different than my last one, a lot more bass & techno with a real French sound. I'm real happy with the result with the exception of one transition that just got out of hand. Drop me a line if you want the track listing.
It's Friiiiiiiiiidaayyyyyyy! Start off with a couple tracks I don't have previews for that are worth checking out if you have the resources. Goose - Synrise (Mumbai Science) & Arnaud Rebotini - All You Need Is Techno - Gesaffelstein Remix. Both are really good techno tracks perfect for your weekend party or your next techno set.
Here is my Friday morning roundup. Enjoy your weekend!
Ready for another assortment of great music? Of course you are. Last week I bought a proper pair of studio monitors and built a studio and I must say that I really appreciate music so much more with the new setup. Things just sound so crisp, I can't believe it sometimes. This Mic Newman interpretation of "Got To Give It Up" is my smooth tune of the day as it is mega smoooooooth. After that all you are going to get is some big bass. I was listening to the Sound Pellegrino podcast this morning and there was this exclusive sweet unreleased Jean Nipon remix that is going to be big so that prompted me to go check out some of his other work. I am really into this dolphins track he did, just the right amount of bass with a good bounce to it.
Maxime Dangles is the next producer to drop a BNR Trax Release. A little different then other BNR releases but different is good in my mind. Good Job was my favourite of the two track EP out soon.
If you like Canblaster, here is a little treat, a two hour set recorded at a show in russia not so long ago. This set is filled with big bass, show some respect and listen to it on a proper stereo with a sub for full effect.
So yesterday I posted this Myrryrs track Feel U and was checking out a couple of his other tracks and was super duper impressed. I was intrigued by his SoundCloud location of Gliese 581 d, Antarctica. Upon further research it turns out Gliese 581d is an extrasolar planet orbiting the star Gliese 581 approximately 20 light-years away in the constellation of Libra. Because of its mass, at least 5.6 times that of Earth, the planet is classified as a super-Earth. I wish I came from somewhere as cool, I have to settle for being a Canadian with a French and American background.
Junior Boys have a new album "It's All True" coming June 14th which many of you I'm sure are super excited about. A little off the beaten path for this blogger, but I really dig the sound. Jeremy (1/2 of the Junior Boys) lives in one of the best cities on this planet, my hometown of Hamilton, Ontartio. "Banana Ripple" is the first single, drops in a 12' single May 30th. They look to have a pretty extensive june tour kicking off the 9th in Toronto at the Phoenix.
For you progressive fans I was sent this pretty cool big room track Delphi from Apollo / Delphi EP out now on Whartone. I'm a bit of a fence sitter when it comes to big room progressive sound but I know a lot of you love it and this is worth a share.
So I've got a lot of really good music to share with you today. Somedays I come home from work expecting to have to do some research to find some magical sounds but today they really fell in my lap. Teki Latex made this mixtape with some of that next level shit you don't believe your actually listening to but in reality you are. Then on my way home I listened to one of the coolest living sound effects in really long time other than vocals. Bee's. I'm a little curious how many people were stung in the production process? Check it out, it really builds and buzzes.
One of 2011 's Best Mixtapes. So fukk'n raw and filthy. Make sure to check out Teki Latex & Bambounou's remix of MYRRYR's Feel U. You can hear it at the 25th minute in the mix, and the original below. The original is pretty awesome too but the remix is part of that next level shit I was talking about, really excited for that release. The Ramadanman track was also in the mixtape and could be a real nice transition track for a bass set.
A friend of a friend made the perfect cake for easter. Three very excellent tracks to share with you this excellent Easter Saturday. I've been really digging this Luckybeard remix of ray ban vision. I've been meaning to post this Green Velvet track for quite some time now and decided that today would be as good of a day as any. Something a little softer with a some sweet drum kicks from Kito & Rija Lee. You will like these or we can't be friends.
Baggi Begovic is a wicked name, just saying. Great preview for his Disco Tech EP on one of the best labels out there Strictly Rhythm. Yesterdays hangover is finally lifting, time to get back on the horse me thinks. Had a great studio session with the boys till 5 or 6 am, lots of good tunes after a disappointing result to the Habs game. Bruins can go suck it, we'll get em on Saturday night.
So I was just blown away by this Clockwork remix of this Valerna track called "Amazing". The tittle really describes the track perfectly. There is this drum roll in it that is so crispy, I can't get enough of it. Listen to this with proper speakers, your laptop won't cut it. Following that up with a couple other more chilled house tracks. The Catz N' Dogz track was probably my favorite from this weeks Sound Pellegrino podcast which is is the best thing available every Wednesday on iTunes or http://www.soundpellegrino.net . The Alexis Cabrera track is super chilln. For you higher bmp trance type listeners this Hornets remix of Sir Nenis - Freaks EP has a great vibe. Should be out by summer time on Top Billin. That's all I got for this great day, see you tomorrow.
So today ended up being a pretty epic day. I picked up my first pair of real studio monitors yesterday. They aren't anything high end as I was on a fairly limited budget so I've started out with a pair of 8" KRK Rokit's. Followed that up this morning with a stroll with a bud and he bought a sweet imported motorcycle from Japan. We then decided it was home renovation time, and built a soundproof studio in my basement. Right now it is only semi sound proof, but I can listen to some serious bass and not bother my room mates which was the goal I really set out to with this operation. A bunch of sound proof insulation in the ceiling and walls, covered with this cool tinfoil wrap in the cold sellar, posters, snowboards, small couch, two cdj900's, djm800 mixer, ddj-t1 midi controller, axiompro25 keyboard, apc40, macbook pro, old imac and a huge pine dinning room table I refinished back in the day makes for the perfect studio. I'm pretty sure I found my new favorite room in my house. The bass in here combined with some very crispy snares. I like my snares crispy.
So goof ing around tonight I was just mixing with the cdj's and came across a wicked track I really should have posted when the ep came out a couple months ago but I overlooked it I suppose. Check out the dr.ho sample of Jellyjazz, super good use of sample. The other three tracks are off the third installment of it's acclaimed Pleasure & Pressure series. Hope you enjoy!
If you are newer blog follower you probably don't know about my theory that French people do it better. Example #94, Gesaffelstein. His Conspiracy Pt.1 is out on April 25th and his remix of ZZafrika is out May 30th. Vacay Vitamins posted this great video from Miami Ultra Week of Busy P dropping the ZZafrika remix with a great intro.
Really dig Kamei's new filter house track Le Révolutionnaire. I'm not sure what the vocal sample is from, but it feels like some sort of French comedy show. Another solid release from Torro Torro from last week is always good for your stereo. Luca Lozano put together a really good deep techish EP a while back called Heaven and Hell that was really good. I came across this Full Back track on the weekend that I know very little about and really enjoyed it. As a parting gift a fun track from Bauchamp called Don't Care. I still care.
If you follow this blog you would never think that I love hip hop, but hip hop was one of my first musical loves. I don't really post much on the blog because it isn't really the musical focus but every once in a while I find something that is special that I want to share with my friends. I was listening to this funky track that as it turns out is from a local producer in Guelph/Toronto, Ontario where I've spent a lot of time in my life. Elaquent's "Grimey and New" with a touch of Mayer Hawthorne is a real funky track which lead me to his SoundCloud page filled with some other great stuff.
From the other side of the Ocean I've got a couple Dubstep pieces from Sheffield . 5oh! put together one the best holiday tracks this Christmas season and is plugging away and have a couple new tracks. A bit of a different take on Katy Perry (great tits) - Fireworks and a preview to an original called Back Again. Looking forward to hearing the full release. Hope you all are having a great weekend.
A year or so ago I discovered Oliver$ after he released his brilliant iHope EP. I recently posted his upcoming preview for his release Doin' Ya Thang on Play It Down which is a love it or hate it type track (I love it). Jackmode Blog posted this ridiculously good 100 minute mix in March that I've listened too countless times now making it my favourite set for 2011 to date. I thought I would dissect it a little and post a couple of my favourite tracks that haven't been on the blog yet from the set.
On a more technology related issue, if you follow a bunch of music blogs and use a mac you've got to get Peel. Try the free trial and you'll see the value in the 30$ for this amazing program. This is the coolest shit since Napster. Hope you're having a great weekend,
No bangers here, just super solid groovy vibes. Second City Rhythm is sharing a solid track in preparation for their summer US tour. All night long is a real solid smooth house track that is only out on vinyl for the moment but out in digital early next month. A solid filter/disco house track from Joey Negro and Gramophonedzie. Can you pronounce Gramophonedzie? I can't. I'm also super into Dillon Francis lately, his Westside EP had some serious BASS! For those of you impatiently waiting, for Gesaffelstein's ZZafrika remix just wait longer. Official confirmation was released today that ZZafrika remixes is going to be Turbo's 100th release on May 30th. Tiga, why you make us wait so long?
These are two very bad ass wax sculptures if you ask me. On a musical note I feel good for having discovered two new artists today. Adam Port & Chaos In The CBD. Very different sounds but equally cool. Thought I would toss in DJ Edjotronic new release on BNR in there for good measure. Boys Noize is playing in Toronto on the the 21st, definitely considering attending the event even though it's on a weekday. The real downside is the 60$ price tag and Kascade is also playing. Decent Mid Week Round Up.
It's a good day for new music this fine Monday and it feels like spring in this part of the world which is a double bonus after a long winter. Dr Gonzo Ep, Marble Players EP & Canblaster's Jetpack Remixes EP are all out today on Beatport. A Hey Today Remix of Busy P's Procrastinator is being given away for free on Annie Mac's site to promote the up coming Ed Banger "The Bee Sides" out April 16th which I'm a little excited for.
I don't often get e-mails from Korea, so when A-ux, a Korean DJ/Producer contacted me I thought it was super cool that I had a blog follower in Korea. He sent me one of his latest remixes/bootlegs of Chromeo's Hot Mess and it's actually pretty good, check it out.
One more share before I buzz off. I know nothing about this artist "Coat of Arms". I first heard this track in a set the other day by Eats Everything, and came across it on SoundCloud this weekend. I was blabbing about the other day and know nothing about it or the artist unfortunately. Coat of Arms, get at me. I heard this track "Is This Something" and was super impressed with the use of sample. Peace out people and have a great week.
It only takes a few grams of washing machine gunpowder to get rid of those stains on your mind caused my bad decisions, guilt, remorse, etc. I can't get enough of Noob's new Powder track out now on his Crumble EP.
Botnek is a DJ/Production duo out of Montreal. Their "Plonk EP" due out very soon and Discobelle followed by their "Kingdom EP" on Top Billin. You can pick up their first unsigned "Dozer EP" here for free. Both of these dutch sounding tracks are great big room party tracks. Really looking forward to what's coming next.
And lastly a track that was used as an April fools joke last week. A couple people started a speculating that it was a new Ducksauce track but alas it wasn't hehe. This is a PHNTM track uploaded a year ago with a very cool use of the sample and a free download off SoundCloud.
I've been playing around with Traktor 2 Pro all afternoon and I must say "wow!". They took everything I loved about the last version, added a million features, improved performance and added killer gui to it. I'm left kind of blown away by the entire experiance. The only problem I've really had is getting both my cdj's and ddj t1 to work together but I'll never really have a reason for this so F it. Major props to the people over at NI for doing it proper, well worth the wait. Couple tracks and a great Mix from Mumdance, Canblaster & Dillon Francis & Skeet Skeet :) Have a wicked Friday night!
This is probably the first in a series of posts today since I am off and enjoying a quiet day in the hammer. I heard this a long time ago and maybe discarded it too quickly. Discobelle posted it on their blog again this morning and I'm really feeling it this morning with some coffee and cereal. No lizards.
I just played Powder for a friend and he was ripping on how brutal this song was. Clearly he is not thinking clearly tonight. Couple other cool techy tracks to accompany this tonight. Peace...
Remember this? I've had a bit of a long day at work so I haven't had too much time to go through my inbox. I've had these three very different tracks on the back burner for a couple of days now. They really have no place on a burner or stove. If you have a fresh sound you think I might be into, feel free to send me your music. On a totally different subject, I watched this new show Workaholics and this dude had a coat that was a bear with the head and claws. I can't find it anywhere online, anyone else know what I am talking about? Hope you've all had a great day.
Not if the tree is using AT&T. Just kidding, I got no beef with AT&T. Let me dig into my music bag and see what I can come up with for today. Start off by saying I bought the Snatch BDAY EP over the weekend, and it is pretty wicked. I can't get a couple of the tracks out of my head, Homework - The Street is super chill'n. I can't buy all the EP's I want or I wouldn't have anything left to eat but I try to support artists as much as I can. The Marble Players EP coming soon is definitely on my list and should be on yours.
French Fries finally got a SoundCloud page going and posted his Bust Them Up remix which is really cool. The two remixes I've heard so far are super good. Wish I had these in 320!
Here's something very different from the couple I've posed above but and very awesome indeed. I'm a pretty huge fan of DJ PP, he's got a 3-4am tribal sound that is not to be f'd with. Not really sure if this has a scheduled release or not, but the preview is super solid.
I think I'm going to have to try to get this pic made into a big poster, purely for the conversation it will start when guests are over. If I had any painting skills I would probably have to make my own print on a super huge canvas.
Thanks to everyone who had a chance to check out my latest mix, it's gotten some great feedback so far. If you haven't had a chance to check it out scroll down to the next post and check it out. Very chill with some great tracks focusing on vocal samples.
So what do I have for today you ask?
Let's start with a project of 3 artists who do not know eachother...
From the beginning, German producers Ioqe and Mr.Ebs knew they would collaborate in the future. Ioqe found Retrotrotion through the vast internet, who is from Easton, PA (Pennsylvania) and quickly became good friends with a similar love for music. From Germany to Overseas, they are making waves. One melody: Three great tracks!! Out Now, here are a couple previews.
Any of you dig Julio Bashmore? Battle For Middle you made a lot of noise, but she just dropped her Batty Knee EP that is pretty cool. My favourite track is probably this one called Ribble To Amazon but all three are pretty solid.
Lastly Tiga played this on his BBC 6 mix over the weekend, a remix the whole world is waiting to drop from the hottest producer out of France right now Gesaffelstein! There is a crazy cool video on Vimeo of Busy P dropping this in Miami, check it out if you want to hear a little more. Happy Monday!
So I recently purchased some new gear. A pair of used CDJ 900's a month or so ago with a DJM800 mixer, and a Pioneer DDJ T1. The pioneer was something I had ordered before getting the CDJ's and I thought I could cancel the order and get a refund but no such luck so I decided to keep it and I'll use it for house parties or just goofing around in the backyard. I figured I would give a mini review of the DDJ so here it goes:
I've played around with a wide variety of controllers and this is by far the best one so far. Prior to these upgrades I was using a VCI 100SE Arcade Edition from DJ Tech Tools and it was a great controller but this just lets me do so much more with a lot less hassle. The four deck volume fadders are awesome. The Pitch/Tempo control is the best I've used on a midi controller to date. If you are a terrible beat matcher or just getting started and don't want to waste money on something you will outgrow fairly quickly this is the product for you. My favourite features are are probably the effects. Enough buttons to not have to shift with other functions to turn them on or off. The fact that it has a built in sound card is also very awesome, one less piece of gear to lug around. If you are taking a step and looking into purchasing some serious gear without spending 2000-5000 on cdj's and a mixer this is by far the best out there. Comes licensed with its own version of Traktor :) My only complaints would be aesthetics. Cooler colours for the leds and traditional pioneer rings around the play/pause/cue buttons. The knobs also don't feel as good as the knobs on my DJM800 mixer.
I decided to pop the DDJ's T1 cherry and record a mix this morning that is very chilled out and extremely schmoooooooooooood. Some older beats mixed in with some newer recently released stuff. I'm really happy with the results produced here, a great Sunday morning listen.
Here is a YouTube clip of a mystery track A Trak played @ an SHM party in Miami. No definite answer as to who it's by, when or if it will be released. This much is for sure, this is going to be the best dance floor hit for 2011 if or when it is released. The catchiest sample since Barbra Streisand. Maybe the next Ducksauce single? Maybe not, either way very very very cool indeed.
Dr Gonzo finally has a release date of April 11th on Southern Fried!!!! I had never heard springer before, very very cool. J Paul Ghetto is finally dropping the Just For You track on a very sweet compilation Filtered For Your Pleasure EP. Previews sound doooooooooope, included previews for a couple other dope tracks. DJ Zinc dropped an April 2011 Crackhouse mix, his are fairly legendary and has never disappointed me. For the deephouse fans out there check out Filtertÿpen, I posted an After Laughter track he did with a some very very schmooood sampling in it the other day. This upcoming Girls release preview is also very cool, look for it to drop in May. And finally Rubix has put together a great dance party party styles EP for you out on No Brainer yesterday. Very funky sound, this will definitely win over a lot of peoples ears. Have a wicked weekend and come back again soon.
