Year In Review (Part 1)

I've decided I don't like discriminating the quality of a track.  Who am I to say what is better, this or that?  My year & review will be a 3 part series with a condensed list of some of my favorites from this year with a video or two.  This French Fries video for 'Laquisha' was my favorite from the beginning of 2011.  Most of these were releases from January - March of this year and are in no particular order.  All of them were dear to my ears for quite some time and got a lot of play around here.  Whats old to me may be new discovery for you, hope you enjoy.

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas Everyone! Did everyone get super cool gifts for Christmas?  I've been thinking & wishing  that I had a cool vinyl collection lately.  My new years resolution in 2012 will be to support more vinyl labels and buy some vinyl and digitize less.  I was going through my music collection wanting to come up with my top 10 for 2011 and think I'll drop a couple tracks everyday this week that left a more powerful impression with me over the last 12 months.  Before we get there though here are a few really nice tracks I discovered on 'Download Day'.  For those of you who don't know Christmas has been renamed 'Download Day' because it's the day Apple makes the most from itunes with all the gift cards that are passed around.  For my Canadian friends, enjoy 'Boxing Day' tomorrow.

That time of the year is coming really really quickly, only a couple days to find that perfect gift for that special someone.  Or maybe you can find a subpar gift for someone not so special.  Couple really dope releases for something that's as cool as fukk, check out Coni's release on Clek Clek Boom (French Fries dope new label).  Urulu's new 'Goodbyes' EP is also pretty dope for things that are on the chiller side of life.  Kannibalen Records a dope new label out of Montreal has some heavier tracks on a stocking stuffer digital release that are pretty cool with a couple up & coming artists (check it out here).  Three more sleeps childreen!

Fake Blood!  Didn't realize he did a remix of The Drummer until I heard it in this sweet J Paul Getto mix.  I  bought some sweet laces for my sorrels today to get into the Christmas spirit.  Do carollers still go around door to door singing or is this just something from the movies that no one really does anymore.  Maybe I'll try to convince a couple of my friends who have horrible voices by the way, and go door to door carolling with a couple roadies in our pockets.  All I want for Christmas is Techno.  Next time someone asks me what I want for Christmas I'm going to tell them 'Techno'.

What Type Of Music Do You Listen To?

The question: What type of music do you listen to?

Most people can answer this question at ease and don't over analyze it like I do.  I cringe at trying to explain what my musical pleasures are because they are so diverse.  I could answer 'dance music' but then people think I'm exclusively listening to Guetta, or some sort of shitty watered down over produced made for mtv dance music.  To be honest, my mood really is the greatest influence on my flavour of the day.  I spend more time wanting to chill, so I've been listening to a lot of minimalish type house music.  I think I've out grown my disco/french house phase but I enjoy going back once in a while.  Sometimes I just want to techno.  Yes, techno is also a verb and if you don't agree then you probably don't feel the same way about techno as I do.  I came across this great track recently by Psycatron & Detroit Grand Pubahs.  You may remember the Pubahs from their amazing 'Sandwiches' track (definetly not techno, great video with midgets on marigold rounds) which was really really really good.  'NVRSAYNVR' is nothing like it, but is a great track to introduce someone looking for a really good techno track.  That's all I have to say on the subject, enjoy.
